Why should I make a claim?
When the dangers of asbestos became known, employers became responsible for protecting staff from breathing in asbestos fibres which can cause mesothelioma. Many employers failed to do so and risked the health and safety of their staff for their own gains.
We believe that if you are a victim of mesothelioma, or any other asbestos-related illness, those who negligently exposed you to asbestos should be brought to justice. They should be made to pay compensation for your suffering. After all, they made a profit by knowingly putting your health at risk.

What is mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma is an aggressive form of cancer of the mesothelium, which is a membrane that covers most of the organs of the body. It is usually caused by breathing in asbestos fibres and most people who develop mesothelioma have worked with or near to asbestos in the past. Sometimes it is referred to as malignant mesothelioma, but it is often just called mesothelioma.
There are around 2,500 new cases of mesothelioma each year in the UK
Up to 9 out of 10 cases of mesothelioma have been caused by contact with asbestos in the past
The mesothelioma tumour usually grows in the pleural membrane that lines the lungs - this is called pleural mesothelioma.
How does mesothelioma develop?
Although the exposure to asbestos may have occurred many years ago, the tiny asbestos fibres can become lodged in the membrane that lines the lungs and lie there for many years before any illness develops.
- It usually takes between 20 and 40 years for mesothelioma to develop after being exposed to asbestos
- It can be as short as 10 years or more than 60 years
- Some people will never suffer any disease as a result of contact with asbestos
Symptoms of this form of cancer
The tumour causes inward pressure on the lungs and can cause symptoms such as;
loss of appetite
persistent cough (not as common)
Occasionally, the tumour develops in the membrane lining the organs of the abdomen – this is called peritoneal mesothelioma.
Treatment for mesothelioma is often given with the aim of slowing the growth of the tumour.
